About

Lauren Mallett (she/her/hers) is a poet, teacher, birth doula, and fiber artist. She has lived and studied in Guanajuato and Xalapa, Mexico. Lauren taught dual-language immersion fifth grade in Richmond, California. She earned her MFA and was the Assistant Director of Creative Writing at Purdue University. Her poetry appears or is forthcoming in Poetry Northwest, The Seventh Wave, Salamander, Passages North, and other journals. She lives with her partner, Strand Sheldahl-Thomason, on the homelands of the Clatsop-Nehalem Confederated Tribes, also known as Oregon's north coast. She serves on The Writer's Guild of Astoria's Board of Directors and is a docent at Astoria Visual Arts. Her upcoming offerings include the Reynolds Young Writers Workshop and Reading Diane di Prima's LOBA.

These artworks are part of an ongoing series, The Sea Hands Over Its Ropes, made entirely of marine rope and other materials I collect on DeLaura Beach.

"Slashish" (above left) and "Aviatrix" (above right) were selected for Astoria Visual Arts' juried exhibit Vast Connections: Earth and Art (April 10-May 1, 2021).

"Lisa Marie" (above left) and "Big Brave" (above right) were selected for Cannon Beach Arts' juried exhibit Beauty Deconstructed (June 2-27, 2021).
